Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangaluru Diocese, Karnataka has been elected as the new Chairman of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI) Commission for Liturgy by the Plenary Assembly.

The Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI) which is the Canonical National Episcopal Conference is the largest in Asia and the fourth largest in the world. The Conference of Catholic Bishops of India or CCBI, is the national episcopal conference of the bishops of the Latin rite of the Catholic Church in India, functioning in accordance with canon 447. There are 132 Latin Catholic dioceses in the country, and 190 active and retired bishops are the members of the CCBI.

The Conference also elected 26 CCBI Bishops to participate in the Federation of Asian Bishops ‘ Conferences (FABC)’s three-week Golden Jubilee Conference to be held in Bangkok, Thailand in November 2020.

The CCBI’s one day meeting discussed various issues affecting India’s Latin Catholic Church, which is made up of 132 dioceses and 190 Bishops. The Church in India is animated by the CCBI through its 16 Commissions and 4 Departments. The one day meeting of the CCBI discussed various matters affecting the Latin Catholic Church in India, which consists of 132 dioceses and 190 Bishops.
